Waltz

NORBERT TER HALL — NTR/VARA/VPRO — 2006

Willy Waltz, director of the dying family circus Waltz, rules with an iron fist over his circus and his family. Although he is getting older, he does not want to step aside. “The performance lasts as long as the performance lasts”. Then he’s diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. Waltz must do everything possible to ensure the survival of the circus, his life’s work. Who is suitable to follow in his footsteps? His eldest son Bruno is a gay and will not provide any offspring. His second son Felix does have a wife and children, but is too weak to lead the circus and his youngest son Enrico is an unguided missile. Then there is Olga, Waltz’ new Russian friend who wants to take over the circus. But is there still room for the Great International World Circus Waltz in this day and age?
