Faas, Fano, Jeroen, Finley and Elliott are going to camp for the first time — a summer camp for queer youth struggling with their feelings. Along with 65 other young people from across The Netherlands, they will spend five days together. For many of them, it’s the first time in their life to be surrounded by peers with the same struggles and feelings as their own. Each of them has their own story and background, but they all share one thing: the need for connection. At camp, they experience what it’s like to fully be themselves, without any judgement. This mutual recognition brings out more than they might have expected. Will this help them come closer to each other and ultimately to themselves?
In this documentary, directors Lucas van der Rhee and Chris Westendorp bring us to a place where being queer is the norm: a summer camp where young people are being challenged to fully embrace and love themselves.
Queerkamp is produced by Willy Waltz International in coproduction with HUMAN and will premiere on Dutch national tv on August 1, 2024.
